The Beluga • The Beluga Whale lives mostly in the Arctic Waters North of America. They are also known as the White Whale because they are the only marine mammal of this color. The Belugas iconic Bulge on top of its head is called a Melon. It Allows Belugas to use Echolocation which helps it find breathing holes in the ice or hunt its prey.
Diet • Belugas are Opportunistic feeders. What they eat depends on the seasons and where they are. Their Main Diet consists mostly of fish like the Pacific Salmon. The Beluga Also eats other Marine animals such as squids, crabs, shrimp, etc.
Belugas and Seasons • Belugas Usually Mate during May through February but some happen at other times during the year. Beluga whales breed in small bays and estuaries. A single dominant male may mate with several females. • Belugas Shed their Skin during the Summer months when their Skin Grows and turns yellowish during the Winter months.
Habitat during different Seasons The beluga whales are spread all over the frigid arctic waters and in some parts of the subarctic regions. Some belugas would migrate seasonally, while others would only travel within a small localized area. Migration occurs especially during winter months when there are chances for them to get trapped in the ice of the Arctic waters. During migration, small groups or pods join each other forming a huge group consisting anything between 200 and 10, 000 individuals. Normally, each pod consists of 2 to 25 individuals
