BELLWORK Which sense will provide the quickest reaction
BELLWORK ■ Which sense will provide the quickest reaction time? ■ Sight ■ Hearing ■ Touch
DISPLACEMENT PRELAB Seo Physics
Objective ■ To see a relationship of position vs. time (x vs. t) ■ ∆ x = (xf – xi)
Apparatus (materials) ■ Meter stick ■ Stopwatch
Roles Groups of 3 ■ EVERYONE WILL CONTRIBUTE IN TIMING, RECORDING, AND TESTING TRIALS ■ INDIVIDUAL DATA
Instructions 1. Using just the first finger and thumb, catch the dropping meter stick 2. Record the distance in meters 3. Calculate your time using stopwatch 4. Using 7 trials in meters (m) and time (t), draw position vs. time graph (x vs. t) graph for each sense (3 graphs in total) ■ ONE x vs t graph for Sight ■ ONE x vs t graph for Hearing ■ ONE x vs t graph for Touch
Data Chart (Per Person in the Group)
Instructions (Con. ) ■ For sight, the person will be watching when the other drops ■ For hearing the person will close his/her eyes listen for the signal when the meter stick drops ■ For touch, eyes closed and a someone will touch or tap on you when they are dropping
Conclusion Answer the questions using complete sentences and data from the activity to support your answers. ■ Which sense had the quickest reaction time? Why do you think this was quicker than your other senses? ■ Which has a quicker time. Was it the Meter stick or the ruler? ■ What factors might have contributed to your reaction time being too slow or quick? Be specific.
