WATERGATE -Wiretapping of Democratic National Committee headquarters in Watergate apartment complex. -Nixon was not part of the plan for the break in but when FBI traced it to his campaign he tried to cover it up. -Incident goes unnoticed for the most part and Nixon is reelected in 1972. -Watergate scandal refused to go away and the White House and Nixon kept doing more to cover it up.
