Belize City, Belize is known for its well known wildlife sanctuaries, including its jungles, beaches, and caves. It is especially known for the Great Blue Hole, which is a great tourist attraction of a massive sinkhole that about 410 feet deep, and has an eerie look to it. People mostly go to Belize City for exploring their ancient ruins and scuba diving. It would be best to plan on going in the summer so it is better to swim, hike, and enjoy the sun. Belize City, Belize. Is located near the equator, so it is most likely going to be warm all year. https: //www. gettingstamped. com/bestbeaches-belize/
Twitter Scrapbook #1 For breakfast, I had Belize Fry Jacks. They are a very popular breakfast food down in Belize. They are made with soft, but not sticky dough, and are fried on each side until golden brown. They can be eaten with honey, jam, sugar, refried beans, and/or cheese to spice it up a little bit. For lunch I had Belizean rice and beans. It is like normal rice and beans, however, the traditional recipe in Belize has the addition of coconut milk to make the rice sticky and have a distinct flavor. For dinner I had Belizean stewed chicken, or in Belize “stew chicken”. The chicken is usually marinated over night in Achiote paste to give it a lasting flavor. It is usually served with rice and beans, coconut rice, or cole slaw. #beans #Belize #vacation https: //www. sanignaciobelize. com/blog/viewarticle/belize-fry-jack-recipe https: //www. belizehub. com/belize-rice-and-beans/
Twitter Scrapbook #2 Today I took a ferry to Caye Caulker, a small island off of the coast of Belize, to go see the Great Blue Hole. There are different ways to get there such as renting a two hour boat ride. When the ferry arrived to the Great Blue Hole, everybody went scuba diving and snorkeling to see what was in it. Everybody stayed near the top because going too deep is very dangerous. The sinkhole is 124 m (410 ft) deep, and the safest depth for an adult is 39 m (130 ft) at most. However, a group of submariners went to see what was at the bottom, and discovered a lot of life near 90 m (295 ft). As they ventured deeper, all signs of life disappeared. This was because there was a thick layer of hydrogen sulfide across the width of the sinkhole. There were shells and bones of animals that fell down there and suffocated due to the lack of oxygen. #great #blue #hole https: //unbelievable-facts. com/2015/05/the-great-blue-hole. html https: //www. cnn. com/travel/article/blue-hole-belizeexpedition/index. html https: //www. businessinsider. com/great-bluehole-belize-divers-sinkhole-what-lies-bottom-2019 -2
Twitter Scrapbook #3 I visited the Lamanai Archaeological Reserve, which is a temple that is over two thousand years old. Lamanai is the third tallest Maya structure in Belize standing 33 m (108 ft) tall. To get to the temple, you would have to travel up a river for a twenty-six mile boat ride through the dense jungle. “Lamanai” is the Maya word for “submerged crocodile”. It is called this because there are multiple different crocodile motifs at the site. At the temple, you would be able to see exotic birds, howler monkeys, iguanas, jaguars, and of course, crocodiles. If arriving on a cruise ship, there are options of arranging a tour to go to the reserve. Inside the temple, you will be able to see different structures made out of limestone overlaid with a thin layer of lime plaster and a finish coat of stucco. #temple #crocodile https: //nichbelize. org/institute-ofarchaeology/archaeological-sites-and-parks/lamanai/ https: //en. wikivoyage. org/wiki/Lamanai
Twitter Scrapbook #4 One thing Belize is know for is their chocolate. Every year near the end of May, Belize holds a chocolate festival. People displayed their finest chocolates and wines, along with chocolate beer, chocolate barbecue, and chocolate soap. It is usually a three day festival with live music, games, and crafts. Their chocolate festival has been going on since 2007. Experts say that Belize is the “Cradle of Chocolate” because it was first used there. There was a chocolate pot found that was used 2600 years ago that still have traces of chocolate. In the past, Mayans had chocolate at every meal because they were known as a sacred gift of the gods. Nowadays, Belize cacao beans are used in Hershey bars, and it is actually their main source of cacao. They have the festival because it has gone so far back in their history and it helped shape their culture today. #chocolate #festival https: //belize. com/belize-chocolate/ https: //chabilmarvillas. com/belize-chocolate-festival. html
Twitter Scrapbook #5 Belize City has a lot of crowds and tourist attractions, which can be unappealing to those who like to stay away from large masses. A good place to visit if you’re not really into crowds is Dangriga, Belize. They are about ninety miles apart by land 36 miles by sea. Dangriga is known as Belize’s Culture Capital because it is more authentic and shows the real culture of Belize instead of the tourist facade. However, it is becoming a more popular place due to its easy access from Belize City. In Dangriga, there are many market and riverside attractions, so you can socialize, eat, and shop. There are local vendors who arrive to their shops as early as 4: 00 in the morning and stay as late as 6: 00 at night and friendly fishermen who will chat with you whenever. Dangriga is also known for its friendly atmosphere and is one of the friendliest towns in the country. #culture #Dangrigia https: //www. cocoplumcay. com/top-five-things-to-do-indangriga-the-culture-capital-of-belize/ https: //www. yokhabelizeresort. com/10 -things-might-notknow-dangriga
Email to a Friend Dear Jay, I visited Belize and it was so much fun! I went to a lot of tourist attractions and I think we should go there one day. They have really good chocolate and their Fry Jacks are delicious. I know you like food, and there’s a lot of that there, so I think it would be a perfect place for you to go. We should plan it for next summer so it is warm when we go. Anyway, I hope you’re doing well and get back to me as soon as you can. See you soon, Angelina
