BELDING’S SAVANNAH SPARROW By: R. C.
Belding’s savannah This specie of bird tends to be on the small size with a dark and light feathering on the top and a light white on their bellies. However they are most noticeable by the yellow stripe over and near their eyes.
Belding life style The bird spends most of in the salt water marshes and low grasslands hunting and forging for seeds, the Belding only starts hunting insect during the mating seasons.
What do Belding feed on The Belding’s Savannah main diet caned of mostly seeds and insects. Seeds during the winter months and seeds during the summer months. They also nibble at the Pickleweed around their homes.
Belding nesting During the research of the Belding’s savannah, very little; if any, information about the nesting and raising of newly hatched were given. The very few pieces of information are that. (See information on next slide)
Belding nesting A. ) their live in a family all year around, B. ) the mother and the father raise the young ones, and C. ) all nesting are found in dense Pickleweed near or on ground and the nests are often visited by house hold cats for a quick snack.
What made them endangered? The main and only cause for their decrease in numbers are new buildings on salt marshes. Because most of their food and housing are in the salt marshes.
Other factors for endangerment The another factor to the endangerment of the Belding are our household cats and dogs. Because most will either play with them or simple eat them whole.
Ways to help the Belding Surprisingly the Belding’s Savannah can recover on they only, but must have salt water marshes to do so. This is the only real threat that we have towards them, us using their land for useless material.
Fun facts The Belding is one of the few endanger species that are not given special treatment, beside land. In the recent 2010 report, there are roughly a minimum of 2902 breeding pair of Belding’s Savannah.
Fun facts Both male and female look the same inclining size. Belding are one of the few bird species where the father helps the mother raise the young. All Belding’s Savannah are found only in a family, even when migrating season comes.
