The Meaning of Behaviorism • Behaviorism, also known as behavioral psychology, is a theory of learning based on the idea that all behaviors are acquired through conditioning. Conditioning occurs through interaction with the environment. Behaviorists believ e that our responses to environmental stimuli, like reinforcements and punishments shape our actions.
Why It Is Important to? • The theory reminded me that the reinforcements and punishments were used by my mother. For example, when I have cleaned the house actively, my mother would be so happy that she may cook a big meal for us and give me a big hug for award. However, if I mess up the room and let she know, she would be angry and I would be punished to lose my pocket money. Obviously, my mom wants me to do more housework for our family and don’t want me to a messy girl, so she used her responses to influence me and let the consequences what her wants to be more likely to occur.
What Is My Action Plan? • I would try to use the reinforcements and punishments to help my study. For example, I always spend more time than I plan on my homework, because when I try to spend one hour on the study, I would waste some of time to do other things. I will try to create some punishments for distraction and award myself for finish on time.
