DEFINITION • Behavioural Approach: “The behavioural approach is defined as the approach that emphasizes on the style of leadership of a leader”. • There are two type of behaviours of leaders 1. Task Behaviour 2. Relationship Behaviour
DEFINITIONS • Task Behavior: it is defined as approach that leads leaders to help and facilitate the followers to complete their tasks. • Relationship Behavior: it is defined as the approach that leads leaders to keep an account of followers relation with each other and if they feel relaxed in the leaders company.
SUMMARY • Behavioral approach is different from trait and skills approach. • Focuses on the performance of the leaders. • Validated by three studies; 1. The Ohio State University Study 2. The University of Michigan Study 3. Blake and Mouton Study
BENEFITS • The behavioral approach is utilized by developmental organizations to teach managers how to work efficiently and productively benefit the organization. • The Behavioral approach is nearly applied to all situations and things leaders do.
STRENGTHS 1. It has a broad impact as it focuses on the style of leader rather than characteristics and traits. 2. It is a reliable source as it is backed up three solid studies. 3. It works on conceptual level, has two types task behavior and relationships behavior. 4. All the leaders from around the World can assess their style of leadership using this approach.
CRITICISMS/ WEAKNESSES 1. No examples are given of leadership behaviors to prove the studies. 2. The style of leadership is not universal and cannot be implemented on each situation. 3. Most studies promote the high-high style of leadership which is not a useful approach and is not applied to varied circumstances.
APPLICATIONS 1. Vast implementation. 2. Used by many leaders across the World easily. 3. I can use the behavioral approach to judge my behavior in facilitating and helping group members in their task completions. 4. I will also assess my relationship behavior with the companions to make sure that I am of some help to them.
