Before we start anything You need to know
Before we start anything… You need to know how to go about composing a speech. 1. The first thing you need to do is BRAINSTORM!!! Let your mind go free and record every idea that comes to you. v Think about things you like, things you want to know about, interesting topics v Choose if you will be doing a Speech using: v § -Informative-Persuasion-Entertain-
Choosing a topic Now that we have brainstormed…. Look at all of your options. Which topic is of the greatest interest to you? Think about the audience. What topic would be interesting for them to hear? Think about age groups, interests, etc. Can this topic be researched? You might have a great idea for a speech topic, but if you can’t locate reliable sources on the subject, you won’t have much to talk about.
Choosing a topic Is the topic too broad or too narrow? A topic that is too broad is like ordering a super-large pizza for yourself. You can’t get through it in one setting. A topic that is too narrow is like ordering a half-slice when you haven’t had anything to eat all day. You need to pick a topic that is big enough to hold the audience’s attention but not so big that you can’t cover it in 3 -5 minutes
Types of speeches Informative- focuses on a specific topic and wants to inform the audience of that topic Persuasion- convinces the audience to think or act a certain way, presents data to back up his or her position on that topic Entertain- entertains the audience, incorporates personal stories or experiences
