Why are bees so important. • Bees are important because they help flowers, fruit, and vegetables to grow. • They are really good pollinators, bringing pollen from flower to help make seeds so new plants can grow. • Without bees it would cost a lot of time and money to make fruit and vegetables grow.

What do bees eat? Bees eat Nectar and Pollen, but we eat the honey! Royal Jelly is only for the Queen Bee – she is the boss!
What is pollination? Bee’s go from flower to drink nectar. The pollen from the flower sticks to them and they bring it to the next flower. This makes a seed from which a new plant will grow.
Why is pollination important? Pollination is important because it makes seeds from which new plants grow. More than 1/3 of the food in the world comes from pollination!
What Fruit and Vegetables need Bees? • Strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and blackberries need lots of visits from bees to pollinate • Apple trees need bees to visit from one tree to the next to make seeds. • Cucumbers, avocadoes, broad beans and courgettes
What can we do to help bees. Plant more flowers Plant flowers which bloom in spring and autumn Cut the lawn less often so daisies and dandelions can grow Plant more fruit trees Don’t use chemicals or pesticides in your garden Have a wildflower/meadow section in the garden
