Beam Gas Vertex BGV profile monitor General status
Beam Gas Vertex (BGV) profile monitor : General status & follow-up of actions James Storey (BE-BI-BL) on behalf of the BGV team WP 13 Task Steering Meeting, 4 th May 2020
General status HL-LHC beam 1. Gas target Open questions - specifications for: 1. Gas target; 2. Particle tracking detector; 3. Data processing. 2. Particle tracker 3. Data processing Simulations Reality Performance Aim: Set of specifications for an instrument that meets the HL-LHC requirements and is realisable. 2
Developments since WP 13 BGV #1 / 2020 1. Gas target • Roberto Kersevan (TE-VSC) → “Micro-channel gas target design & simulation studies. ” 2. Particle tracker • Bernadette → “Status of the Geant 4 simulations for the BGV performance study. ” • Helene → “Tracking with GEM detectors & roadmap for a prototype module. ” 3
Follow-up actions from WP 13 BGV#1 / 2020 Existing BGV - check dry air is OFF • Done. Global tracking algorithms – collaborate with EP to find best package • In progress – see Bernadette’s talk. What is max. acceptable pressure? • In progress – in contact with Anton Lechner (EN-STI). Need to define minimum aperture with ABP • In progress – Riccardo De Maria (BE-ABP) is looking into this, specifically if 42 mm – the minimum beam aperture in Robert’s design is acceptable. 4
