OVERVIEW This critical Virtual Field Trip is designed to educate, inspire and provide you with the real story on vaping. Over the next few months as we go along each lesson, you will listen to a doctor who will separate vaping facts from fiction and a marketing expert who will expose the truths about vaping advertisements. You will meet and listen to teens across the country who are taking a stand against vaping to educate you about the risks of vaping and to provide you with information to help deter your decision about vaping.

FACT OR MYTH? • E-cigarettes don’t contain nicotine • Myth! Most contain nicotine, which is harmful in adolescent and young brain development • The liquid in vaping is just flavored water • Myth! Vapor is not flavored water, it is made up of tiny particles that contain nicotine and harmful toxic chemicals • E-liquids, when heated, release fine particles that may contain toxic chemicals that are linked to cancer • Fact! The harmful chemicals in aerosol that is inhaled and exhaled can negatively affect the body in many ways, including links to lung disease • You can’t get addicted to e-cigarettes • Myth! E-cigarettes still contain nicotine which is an addictive drug and can make it hard for people to quit smoking or vaping • Vaping companies target teens in their marketing campaigns • Fact! Researchers found that in their early marketing campaigns, JUUL clearly targeted young audiences, crafting their brand advertising around strategies that were appealing to teenagers
