Striking Hazards - Rolling Objects bcmsa. devcogroup. com Rolling Objects Rolling hazards occur when a worker is struck by a vehicle or heavy equipment while it is in motion but also any object that rolls on the same level. Examples of Rolling Hazards • Equipment operators with limited to no visibility when operating in reverse • Being struck by a vehicle or mobile equipment • Materials not secured on a uneven surface 3 Accidents involving rolling objects often occur due to inadequate training on how to safely operate and work around mobile equipment.
Striking Hazards - Rolling Objects bcmsa. devcogroup. com Protect yourself and others: • Do not operate a vehicle in reverse with an obstructed rear view, unless it has an audible reverse alarm, or another worker signals that it is safe. • Never cross the path of a backing vehicle. • Set parking brakes when mobile equipment or vehicles are in park. • Stay away from operating mobile equipment and vehicles. • Stay clear of hazards using job briefings and three-way communication. • Ensure you always wearing proper the right Personal Protective Equipment for the task(s) but remember it is the last line of defense. • Wait for the all clear from the worker using machinery or equipment before approaching. • Do not carry personnel unless there is a safe place to ride. • Be sure to be properly trained before using or working around mobile equipment. Remember to always be alert and aware of your surroundings at all times. Ask yourself, “Am I or others around me at Risk? ” 4
