THE CALL TO WORSHIP (Pastor / CONGREGATION) I can do all things through Christ WHO GIVES ME STRENGTH. Great is the power of God AT WORK IN THOSE WHO BELIEVE. I am not ashamed of the gospel, BECAUSE IT IS THE POWER OF GOD TO EVERYONE WHO BELIEVES. (Philippians 4: 13; Ephesians 1: 19 a; Romans 1: 16 a)

THE OPENING HYMN #571

(1) When we walk with the Lord In the light of His Word, What a glory He sheds on our way; While we do His good will He abides with us still, And with all who will trust and obey. Trust and obey, For there’s no other way To be happy in Jesus, But to trust and obey.

(2) Not a shadow can rise, Not a cloud in the skies, But His smile quickly drives it away; Not a doubt nor a fear, Not a sigh or a tear, Can abide while we Trust and obey, For there’s no other way To be happy in Jesus, But to trust and obey.

(3) Not a burden we bear, Not a sorrow we share, But our toil He does richly repay. Not a grief nor a loss, Not a crown nor a cross, But is blessed If we trust and obey. Trust and obey, For there’s no other way To be happy in Jesus, But to trust and obey.

(4) But we never can prove the delights of His love Until all on the altar we lay; Nor the favor He shows, And the joy He bestows, Are for them who will trust and obey. Trust and obey, For there’s no other way To be happy in Jesus, But to trust and obey.

(5) Then in fellowship sweet We will sit at His feet, Or we’ll walk by His side in the way; What He says we will do, Where He sends we will go, Never fear Only trust and obey Trust and obey, For there’s no other way To be happy in Jesus, But to trust and obey.

A TIME OF SHARING WITH GOD’S CHILDREN OF ALL AGES

THE HOLY SCRIPTURE Judges 4: 1 -10; 12 -15 Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord, now that Ehud (the judge of Israel) was dead. So the Lord gave the Israelites into the hands of Jabin, king of Canaan, who reigned in Hazor. Sisera, the commander of King Jabin’s army, was based in Harosheth Haggoyim. Because Sisera had nine hundred chariots fitted with iron and had cruelly oppressed the Israelites for twenty years, they cried to the Lord for help. Now Deborah, a prophet, the wife of Lappidoth, was leading Israel at that time. She held court under the Palm of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim, and the Israelites went up to her to have their disputes decided.

She sent for Barak, son of Abinoam from Kedesh in Naphtali and said to him, “The Lord, the God of Israel, commands you: ‘Go, take with you ten thousand men of Naphtali and Zebulun and lead them up to Mount Tabor. I, the Lord, will lead Sisera, the commander of Jabin’s army, with his chariots and his troops to the Kishon River and give him into your hands. ’” Then Barak said to Deborah, “If you go with me, I will go; but if you don’t go with me, I won’t go. ” “Certainly I will go with you, ” said Deborah. “BUT because you will not lead, the honor of victory will not be yours, for the Lord will deliver Sisera into the hands of another woman. ” So Deborah went with Barak to Kedesh. There Barak summoned Zebulun and Naphtali, and ten thousand men went up under his command. Deborah also went up with him.

When Sisera was told that Barak, son of Abinoam, had gone up to Mount Tabor, Sisera summoned all his men and his nine hundred chariots fitted with iron. Then Deborah said to Barak, “Go! This is the day the Lord has given Sisera into your hands. Has not the Lord gone ahead of you? ” So Barak went down Mount Tabor, with ten thousand men following him. At Barak’s advance, the Lord routed Sisera and all his chariots and army by the sword, and Sisera got down from his chariot and fled on foot.

THE SONG OF PREPARATION #433 Rise Up, O Church of God

(1) Rise up, O Church of God! His kingdom tarries long. Bring in the day of love for all And end the night of wrong. (2) Rise up, O Church of God! Have done with lesser things. Give heart and mind and soul and strength To serve the King of kings.

(3) Rise up, courageous friends! The Church for you now waits, Her strength is ready for her task; Rise up, and make her great! (4) Lift high the cross of Christ! Tread where His feet have trod. Disciples of the Son of Man, Rise up, O Church of God!

DEBORAH: A WOMAN OF GOD’S CHOICE

MALE / FEMALE EQUALITY We are all created in the image of God. We have all sinned and fallen short of God's expectations. The Apostle Paul’s definitive word on equality: Galatians 3: 28 – “There is neither Jew or Greek, bond or free, male or female: for you are all ONE in Christ Jesus. ” ALL LIVES MATTER !!!

God chose Deborah as the best person (male or female) to lead Israel She excelled in it. She was willing to serve! Are YOU willing to serve God through Bayshore Church? (Opportunities are coming !!)

Deborah confronting Israel’s General Barak

Deborah leading General Barak and the Israeli army to victory over the Canaanites

Jael giving General Sisera his “final headache” and victory over the Canaanites (Judges 4: 23)

Deborah did NOT FORGET to give all the praise and glory to God From Judges 5 – The Song of Deborah “Praise the Lord for the avenging of Israel, when the people willingly offered themselves. But may all who love and serve You be bright and shining like the rising sun when it breaks over the horizon! And may the land of Israel bask in many years of peace. ”

WHY GOD USED DEBORAH (1) Deborah was FAITHFUL to God and to the people of Israel (2) Deborah had an UNWAVERING TRUST that God would keep His promises made to His Chosen People, Israel (3) Deborah, by example, INSPIRED CONFIDENCE in others to trust that God always acts in the best interest of His people Deborah was a true leader who wasn't afraid to get into the sometimes messy business of doing the right, God-honoring thing.

Stand Up, stand up for Jesus, You soldiers of the cross, Lift high His royal banner, It must not suffer loss; From victory unto victory His army shall He lead Till every foe is vanquished And Christ is Lord indeed. (1)
