Goals: • To develop a set of recommendations that we can present to the OSAA Executive Board to help our membership schools with guidance and a comprehensive set of guidelines in the specific sport of basketball • We need to remember that we are dealing with 278 schools who offer basketball and are from all scopes, so we need to make it fairly simple (KISS method)
What we know: • The 2020 -21 Association Year began on August 31 • Season 2 December 28 – March 7 • Practices December 28 – January 10 • Competitions January 11 – February 28 • Culminating week events: March 1 - 7
What we can anticipate: • Things are going to change (medically and legislatively) • Postponements and cancellations will most likely occur due to outbreaks. • Not every activity will look the same. • Potential travel restrictions (due to costs and availability). • Continued restrictions on group gathering sizes.
What we know: • GOVERNOR’S: STATEWIDE REOPENING GUIDANCE - K-12 SCHOOL SPORTS, LIMITED RETURN TO PLAY
Practice Limitations: • Requirements: • Maintain 6 feet of physical distance • Masks must be worn indoors • In-Person Instruction (Hybrid or Full Time) • May practice, train and/or compete indoors • • In Comprehensive Distance Learning Model • May practice and/or train indoors • Virtual competitions allowed- Confirmed from OHA
Meeting #3 Focus Question: • If the OSAA Executive Board did decide to delay Season 2, what impacts would that have on Basketball specifically? Let’s say they delayed until January 11 th or 18 th for a start date and maintained the current end date? How would that affect your program?
Meeting #3 Focus Question: • What would be the challenges for your schools if Basketball got moved to another timeframe (or another season) on the current OSAA calendar?
Future Meeting Dates: • TBD Will send you the focused questions for the meeting when I send you the invitation.
• THANK YOU for participating!!!
