What we do on our campus……
What does all this tell you?
Student Success ? ? ²What is the most successful program on your campus? q. What students does it serve? q. What makes it successful? q. How do you know it is successful?
What are your college’s and your course success rates for Basic Skills Students?
How many times does a student at your college repeat a course and/or withdraw from a course before they pass it or give up?
Have you thought of these ideas? Offering the same course in multiple delivery formats (lecture, small group, computer assisted, independent study)?
Or…. . • Requiring students who repeat a course to take it in an alternate delivery format? (Such as a student who took the course as independent study and failed, now has to try a lecture format on the second or third try)
Or…. . • Modifying your probation or disqualification procedures to be more strict and structured for basic skills students who are also on probation or disqualified?
Or…. . • Requiring students who repeat courses to be restricted to sections of the course that meet more days per week? (Such as, on the first attempt, students took the course and it met two days per week; now on a second or third try of the course, the student must take the course in a format that is four days per week)
Or…. . • Re-examining assessment for placement tests and cut-off scores?
