LESSON 4 & 5: CHRISTIANS ARE NOT GOVERNED BY THE OLD TESTAMENT In lesson 4 & 5 We are investigating as to WHY was there a need for a New Testament Dilemma God wanted to save the WHOLE WORLD including Israel (Jer 31: 31 -34, Mark 16: 16) God could not achieve this through the Old Testament/ “Law of Moses” Jesus explains why Luke 5: 36 -39 (Parable of Wineskins) God could not introduce what is new (Christ’s Gospel) to what is old (law of Moses)

COMPARISON BETWEEN OLD & NEW COVENANT Christ’s Covenant Mosaic Covenant 1. Christ is the perfect mediator (Heb 9: 15) 2. It has better promises (Heb 8: 6) 3. International (All Nations) bound by this covenant (Mark 16: 15 -16, Eph 2: 11 -12) 2. It has better High Priest (Christ) (Heb 8: 1), Why -His sacrifice was His own blood (Heb 9: 13 -14) -He entered once for All to Holy of Holies (Heb 9: 24), and took out the “Letter that Killeth” (ten commandments) (2 Cor 3: 610) by nailing it to the cross(Col 2: 14). 5. All Christians are Priest (1 Pet 2: 5, 9) 6. A covenant of liberty and made everything perfect (2 Cor 3: 1 -2, Gal 5: 1 -6, 18, 1. Moses was the imperfect mediator (John 1: 17, Gal 3: 19) 2. Promises were mostly earthly (eg “Shall inherit this land”, Canaan) 3. Only Israel was bound by this covenant (Deut 5: 4) 4. Priesthood was from the house of Levi only, Aaron being the first High Priest (Ex 28: 1) -Animal blood was used for sacrifice, -High Priest entered once a year with blood of animals to the Holy of Holies 5. Covenant of Condemnation, Imperfection, bondage (2 Cor 3: 9; Gal 4: 1 -5; Heb 7: 11, 19)
