In your video notes, you should have… Defined : Base of Support, Line of Gravity, Centre of Gravity. a note about how change in the base of support affects stability. a note about how centre of gravity can change stability. a note about how base of support and line of gravity link to affect stability. Define balance and give examples of static and dynamic balance. How can stance make a difference to stability? Why do boxers and wrestlers compete by weight? Do these sports also have implications for other sports? If so, which ones
Centre of Gravity (page 40) Centre of Gravity can be defined as: ‘The point at which the weight and balance of the body is centred’ Because the centre of mass is the point of an object where all body parts are evenly balanced, it changes depending on what position the body is in. Stand up and raise your arms above your head. Where is your COG roughly now?
The Base of Support (page 41) The wider the base of support and/or the greater the number of points of contact with the floor, the greater the stability The larger the base of support the greater the stability.
Line Of Gravity or (VLG) Line of Gravity is an imaginary vertical line that passes through the centre of gravity to the ground.
COG and Volleyball How do the principles of balance and stability affect/improve your volleyball serve performance? Think about different skills and write a couple of sentences for each explaining how balance is needed to perform in your 3 different volleyball skills correctly- e. g. dig, set, spike
