BALANCE: • As you walk, a sense of balance keeps you from falling over. • Balance is a principle of design and is the way in which the elements in visual arts are arranged to create a feeling of equilibrium in a work of art. • The three types of balance are symmetry, and radial. • Today we are going to look at symmetrical balance.
BALANCE & SYMMETRY Symmetry (Formal Balance) is mirror image balance. In symmetrical balance, you could draw a line down the center of your design, and you'd find the exact same elements on either side of that line.
BALANCE & SYMMETRY Sometimes images may not be completely identical in Symmetry, but they are similar in terms of numbers of objects, colors and other elements.
BALANCE & SYMMETRY Other times they are completely identical designs using symmetrical balance tend to have a formal, traditional look to them.
BALANCE & SYMMETRY Symmetrical balance is easiest to see in perfectly centered compositions or those with mirror images. When a design can be centered or evenly divided both vertically and horizontally it has the most complete symmetry possible.
