Young Leader for Change 2012 Award Shreya Srinivas (X A) won Young Leader for Change 2012 Award for her project on ‘Home Composting’. Shreya was invited to attend International Conference on Bio Diversity at Hyderabad organised by Paryavaran Mitra, an organisation working closely with Centre for Environment Education and Ministry of Environment and Forests from October 10 to 14, 2012.
SHREYA SRINIVAS INDIA’S ENVIRONMENT AMBASSADOR IN KOREA Shreya Srinivas (X A) has been invited to the ‘ 2013 Global Youth for the Environment Forum’ to be held in Seoul, Korea in February 2013 to represent India as a young environment ambassador. She has won the ‘Samsung Engineering India Prize’ in All India Eco-Generation Environmental Essay Competition on ‘How climate change affects our life’ initiated by Paryavaran Mitra in partnership with Ministry of Environment and Forest. She showcased the causes and consequences of climate change and its effects on the coastal areas. She has also suggested some effective ways to control climate change. FACE TO FACE WITH FAMOUS CRICKETER JOHN WRIGHT Harman Khurana (X B) and Dhruv Mathur (XI A) met the legendary New Zealand Cricketer John Wright. This visit was facilitated by Southern Institute of Technology (SIT), New Zealand. Mr. John Wright spoke about the full and partial scholarships offered to students who excelled in sports. He shared with students the finer nuances of Cricket.

The Youth-Exchange Project with Asia-Oceania and North America (Kizuna Project) Shefali Khunnu (XI A) was selected to participate in “The Youth-Exchange Project with Asia-Oceania and North America (Kizuna Project)” conducted by Japan International Cooperation Centre held at Tokyo, Japan from November 18 to 28, 2012. The 100 members strong Indian contingent visited homes of farmers and learnt about the agricultural scenario in Fukushima and shared experiences of an elderly Tsunami survivor. Students visited the Go shikinuma (Five coloured) lakes, Japanese Castle and learnt Japanese poetic style-Haiku. They were welcomed by the Mayor of the City and interacted with peers from the local High School to learn about the Japanese education system.

OUTSTANDING AWARD BY TONY BLAIR FAITH FOUNDATION The school will be conferred with the Outstanding Award by Tony Blair Faith Foundation for successfully incorporating Face to Faith curriculum in its academic fabric at a glittering ceremony on 20 th January 2013 commemorating the ‘World Religion Day”.
Faith and Globalisation Initiative The school was one of the few schools to be invited to attend the Faith and Globalisation Initiative (FGI) in India organized by Tony Blair Faith Foundation. In a candid interview, Mr Tony Blair, former P. M. of UK shared that best way to reduce the negative impact of religion is not to ignore it, but to increase understanding by engaging young people in open and respectful discussion about the role of religion in personal and public life.

RENDEZVOUS 2012 Rendezvous 2012, an Inter-School Competition was held on November 22, 2012. The competition epitomised Global Connect Day wherein the confluence of three languages- English, French and German was highlighted in which best schools of Delhi participated who are at the forefront of giving international edge to their students . The event exhibited multilingual eloquence of participants in dramatization, conjuring appealing advertisements, cartoon script making and book cover designing.

VIDEO CONFERENCE ON ART OF EXPRESSION Students of class IX participated in a Video Conference for Art of Expression on November 22, 2012. Our students interacted with Purkal Youth Development School, Jaipur. This video conference was facilitated by Ms. Sara El Dayekh from Lebanon. Students discussed about beauty in their perspective, religious art and its influences and also discussed various dimensions about freedom of expression.

Video Conference for UN Human Rights Day A multipoint Video Conference on UN Human Rights Day was organised on December 10, 2012 for class XI. The guest speaker was Ms. Garentina Kraja. The VC was an attempt to create awareness about the importance of human rights. The session saw fervent participation of students from Islamic Educational College, Jordan and The City’s School, Pakistan.

PALETTE 2012 PALETTE-2012, an inter-school art extravaganza was organised on October 31, 2012. The event provided an opportunity to 400 artists from 19 schools to canvas their art and showcase their talent. Many competitions like folder designing, chandelier making, canvas painting, pot designing and plate designing provided platform for creative expression.

PEARLY TROVE TRACK Jewellery designing is a great fun exercise for little learners. To turn this craft into an entertaining and educational game and to enhance the creativity and imagination of our children, a fun filled field activity ‘Pearly Trove Track’ was organised on October 19, 2012. Our young students had a memorable experience making bracelets and necklaces with beads placed on track.

FASHION SHOW ON HEALTHY FOODS The school organised a Fashion Show for class I on October 8, 2012. Students dressed themselves representing different healthy foods and walked the ramp. The fashion show encouraged them to eat healthy food.

QUIZ COMPETITION A Quiz competition was organised on December 19, 2012 on theme ‘My Second Home – My School’ and ‘My Country – My Pride’ for Montessori children so that they can relate with their school and country well. Quiz comprised of Question/Answer round, Activity round, Audio-visual round and Linguistic round.

LITTLE CHEFS AT WORK WEEK A special morning assembly was conducted to stress upon aesthetic presentation of food, table etiquettes and kitchen safety measures. Our budding chefs had a great time making colourful toppings and masala peanut delight. They also participated enthusiastically in a creative fun race – Foodies on the Run.

HEALTH AND FITNESS WEEK We at Bal Bharati firmly believe that a healthy mind resides in a healthy body. Health and Fitness Week was organised for classes I to V from October 8 to 12, 2012. Various activities were planned like Fashion Show, Mobile cover making activity, First Aid box making and Balance Diet Chart making activity. In addition to these, students were given an opportunity to interact with the School Doctor who explained the importance of maintaining dental hygiene.

‘Clean Delhi, Green Delhi Week’ was celebrated from November 21 to 23, 2012. A plethora of activities such as Sapling Plantation, Nature Rally and a special theme based assembly–Go green were organised. Children actively participated in an Eco Rally – Save Nature, holding banners and chanting slogans. The fun filled week motivated our students to be responsible citizens and do their bit to make the world a better place to live in.
ACTIVE CITIZEN WEEK Active citizens are empowered leaders who bring positive change in their communities through constructive social action. To encourage students for the betterment of the nation, Active Citizen Week was organised from October 8 to 12, 2012. The week saw plethora of activities to make students aware about their rights and responsibilities reflected in the Consumer Protection Act, 1986. Various activities like Biz E-com, Marketing Mania, Debate on FDI in Retail, Anti-Plastic Campaign, Board Making Competition, Story Dramatization and Street Play were organised to raise awareness about rights and responsibilities of Active Citizen.

FIRST AID CLUB DAY A workshop was organized on First Aid Club Day on October 10, 2012 for Class III. Dr. Gaurav Sachdev, updated the students about basic first aid given in medical emergencies. Basic skills to tackle minor emergency situations were demonstrated. A movie on the same was shown which reinforced the demonstrated techniques. Children created personal Health cards listing their name, address, blood group, family doctor and allergies for use in emergency situations.

SPACE CLUB Session 1 : - JOURNEY ON THE BEAM OF LIGHT on December 03, 2012. An imaginary world was artificially crafted where the students were taken on a journey to understand the universe and galaxies. Kits containing Telescope and Lattitude finder were distributed to enable self learning. Session 2 : – COMETS AND ASTEROIDS The session held on December 15, 2012 introduced the nature and properties of Comets and Asteroids.
SPACE CLUB Session 3 : – PROJECT PARIDHI The session held on December 18 & 21, 2012 focused on the skill to measure the circumference of the earth using simple backyard tools. Session 4 : – SEASONS The session held on December 28, 2012 focused on how the seasons change, time period of the season and what causes the seasons i. e. tilt and revolution of the earth.

SODOKU CLUB In our endeavour to make Mathematics a fun loving subject, the Sudoku Club Day was celebrated for class-V on December 26, 2012. A fun filled, challenging and creative Sodoku competition tested numerical skills of students.
INTERACT CLUB TOGETHER WE READ, TOGETHER WE LEARN Interact Club took the initiative of setting up library for kids at Anugrah- an institute for underprivileged children. A huge stock of books and other stationary equipments was collected by the students and members of staff. Montessori students donated games and toys. On December 1, 2012 Interact Club members visited Anugrah for the donation of books and held an interactive session. The club members returned home brimming with satisfaction.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH CLUB The Interact Club Members fulfilled their pledged for community service by collecting woolen clothes for the underprivileged kids at Anugrah. On December 5, 2012, Interact Club celebrated Community Outreach Day with children at Anugrah. The Club organised an art competition and community lunch for them. It was a delightful experience that promoted the spirit of community service.

PAPER AND FLOWER CRAFT CLUB DAY To explore the craftsmanship, creativity and love for craft, the Paper and Flower Craft Club Day was celebrated on December 12, 2012 for students of class-I. Various activities like Cupcake Poppies, flower Collage , Paper Plate and Tissue paper flower making were organized for the students.
GURU NANAK JAYANTI A special assembly was organised on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti. Students presented Shabad Kirtan in the specially created ambience of a Gurudwara on the stage. Students participated in Nagar Kirtan which was led by Panj Payara. The soulful moments touched the spiritual chord of one and all.

CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR CELEBRATION To celebrate Christmas with fervour and enthusiasm, a special assembly was organised on December 20, 2012. Students presented a dance performance ‘Joy to the World’. The highlight of the day was Carol singing with little Santa who came on a decorated sleigh and danced with children. The stage was aesthetically decorated with Christmas trees, bells, stockings , stars and goodies.

UNIC PAINTING COMPETITON A nationwide painting competition was organised by United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in November 2012 on theme – ‘The future we want’ to promote international togetherness, awareness and to awaken the hidden talents among the younger generation by giving them an opportunity to reflect their natural ability and thoughts in drawing competition and make a huge collective impact. Students of the school also forwarded their artworks which were considered to be of excellent quality and were greatly appreciated by guests at the UN Day reception during which all the works from various schools were displayed.
Twelve best paintings from different schools (including a creation from BBPS, Dwarka) are included in the desk calendar, created by UNIC for the year 2013. These calendars will be circulated amongst the government officials, diplomats, educational institutions, NGO’s, media and other UN agencies.
