Baden Powell Council Life to Eagle & Eagle Service Project Requirement • Be active in your Unit for 6 months as a Life Scout • Demonstrate Living by the Principles of Scout Law & Oath. • Earn the remaining Required & Elective Merit Badges. • Serve Actively in 6 months in position of responsibility in your unit. • While a Life Scout, plan, develop, and give leadership to others in a service project helpful to any religious institution, any school, or your community. You must use the Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project Workbook, BSA publication No. 512 -927, in meeting this requirement. • Take Part in Scoutmaster Conference. • Successfully complete an Eagle Scout board of review. Baden Powell Council Life to Eagle & Eagle Service Project • Eagle Project – Life Scout Plans, Gets Approvals, Organizes, Leads a Eagle Project and writes the report. – Scout can ask questions, ask for advice. – IS NOT Troop Run or Parent Lead. – Troops Members, Family, Friends, Classmates can be help with project at the Life Scout Direction. – Scout makes the decisions. – Scout initiates contacts in a business like, professional manner. Baden Powell Council Life to Eagle & Eagle Service Project • What is an Eagle Project – Community Service Projects • No Set Hours • For Civic, Religious, Non Profits Groups • Does not have to be original idea. 2 Scouts can NOT get credit for same project. • Must involve Scout Planning and Executing Project. • Scout must show Planning, Development & Leadership – Consult with Troop Leadership on Project Aspects. – Make Sure Project meets the intentions and worthy of an Eagle Project. See Page 4 of workbook. How does the scout achieve this? Slide 5 5

Beneficiary). • Find a Project to perform. • Consult with Troop Leadership on Project Aspects. • Make Sure Project meets the intentions and worthy of an Eagle Project. • Do not ask for Beneficiary Approval Signature until you are sure it passes the “Mustard”. • Life Scouts should actively consult Troop Leadership. • Troop should assign an adult who is knowledgeable of Eagle Project Leadership Requirements as a Troop Project Coach. Why? • Can Project - Little Leadership due to Health requirements. • Need to more than just get donors and volunteers. • Specialize Training Required to run blood drive. – Building a Dugout for Little League is quality project. Baden Powell Council Life to Eagle & Eagle Service Project Eagle Project Proposal Review After determining beneficiary organization and project, Fill out the Eagle Project Proposal Pages 7 – 10 & Contact Information. Get Signatures from Beneficiary & Units. Request Board 2 weeks before district meeting. Get Project information to board 1 week before or sooner. Baden Powell Council Life to Eagle & Eagle Service Project • Project Review – Monthly Meeting – Full Uniform Preferred as much as possible or Dress Appropriately - Neat – Review takes approximately 30 minutes. – Unit Leader Introduction recommended. – Prepared to talk about the Project in detail. – Prepare to document any committee concerns. – Reviews Project – Committee make a decision on project. Baden Powell Council Life to Eagle & Eagle Service Project • Project Final Plan – Project Coach – • Strongly Suggest Troops have someone knowledgeable assigned to assist scouts. • District can assist in assigning Project Coach if Life Scout needs assistance. See District Eagle Chair. • BSA Registered Scouter with Youth Protection Trained. • Can only advise & evaluate Project Strength/Weakness • Do not have authority to approve or disapprove projects. – Provide detail all aspects for Project Implementation. • • Pay Special Attention to Safety, Material. Contingency Aspects. Project Report – Clearly document project as required. • Communication – – Slide 13 Business Like Formal Use Spell Check Clear Concise Detailed Written Material and Board Request. 13
Baden Powell Council Life to Eagle & Eagle Service Project • Eagle Application & Board of Review – Complete Eagle Application – Contact Linda Seeley, Register for Scout Advancement Report • • Merit Badge and Rank Dates must match National Records. 6 Months or More Required between Life Board of Review. – Get required Signatures • Unit Leader, Unit Committee, Council Register – Units requests Recommendation Letters at least 45 days before the board of review. Unit Leadership collects Recommendation Letters. – Recommendation Letters are NOT given or shown to the Life Scout. – District Eagle Board Member follows up on references if no letters are turned in. – Contact Eagle District Chair to schedule at least 2 weeks before the monthly district board meeting. – Unit Leader or designate turns in to District Eagle Chair 2 weeks ahead of Board of Review • • Eagle Scout Application, Eagle Service Project Workbook, Eagle Scout Biography & Project Summary Report Recommendation Letters.
