Homework Policy Expectations: • About 30 -60 minutes per/night § Math § At least 20 min. nightly independent reading § Other unfinished work • Students responsibility to bring to school. If forgotten, you may send to the office. Still is a considered late. • Missing homework-DOJO
Dress Code • No twins, triplets…dress alike – to prevent exclusion • Sunglasses are only to be worn if prescription or with a doctor’s note • Shoes must have a strap – should be closed toe on PE days • Undergarments may not be visible • Shorts, Skirts, Dresses should be an appropriate length – shirts should not be longer than shorts

6 th Grade – the transition to Middle School • It is our goal to foster these skills in order to help your child be successful in 6 th grade and as they move forward with their schooling. • Independence § writing down homework, bringing necessary items to and from school § Emailing teacher-students begin practicing this-this is how it works in Middle School • Accountability with behavior and homework § Classroom accountability Weekly Reflection(blue), weekly planner, (gold) § 2 signs in a week (homework/or behavior) result in study hall on Friday. • Time management § Planning ahead (projects & homework), studying in advance, • Organizational skills § Utilizing homework calendar & website for information, filing papers In binder appropriately
Language Arts • Read novels with choice of reading with teacher, reading in partners, or reading alone. • Whole Class and small group guided discussions based on standards • Check in with your child when we are reading a novel to make sure they are getting the most out of it • Study Sync
Writing • • • All writing pieces will be in Google Drive, you can access them anytime. Students will write in all three genres throughout the year. We will give feedback on specific skills we are teaching, not always the entire paper. Choice of topic is very important to us Students will type all of their pieces • Please print at home!!!!
Mathematics • Cognitive Guided Instruction (CGI) will be incorporated into instruction to support analytical math reasoning skills-students will be encouraged and guided daily on talking about their thinking • We are committed to knowing every single kid’s needs and using responsive teaching. • Small group instruction will take place daily, as well as students working alone, in partners and whole class. • Math Homework-all the answers will be on Powerschool learning. We expect students to be checking their answers while they work. We only assign a small amount of practice for home, we believe most learning and practice should be with us.
Chrome Books/Technology Chromebooks Cell Phones 1. Focus on writing /research/Projects • Allowed at school but must stay in backpacks the entire day (7: 45 -2: 30)* 2. Using Google Apps to create documents, presentations, spreadsheets with a secure login. • May not come out until outside the gates after school, must be put away when walking on campus. 3. Students can access the items from any computer at home and at school • We recommend downloading Google Chrome at home 4. District adopted curriculum have online resources for student use. Although it might be tempting please do not edit and revise your child’s work. • Important to know your child’s password Good idea to monitor direct messages.
