Welcome to 5 th Grade BTSN Welcome to a new year. I am very excited to be with all of the students this year. Using the internet formal education, with live classes, may be new to most of us. But, it is the also the future of most education. Together, we will have an amazing, educational year.

Independent Work ● Expect daily independent work in Language Arts and Math. ● Students are to read for 30 minutes as part of daily activies ● All students have daily planners to use to write notes and keep track of assignments ● If a student misses class for any reason, it is their responsibility to check-in with teacher for any missed work, lessons, or assignments.
Math ● Practice times tables 1 -10 ● Students take notes on math concepts and complete examples ● Students will complete practice pages in class and receive homework daily (except review and test days) ● Students have all math lessons in their text book and online ● Tests are HARD! ● The tests are aligned with the SBAC state testing which helps students apply the concepts learned in math.
Writing & Grammar ● ● Narrative, Opinion, Informative 5 -7 paragraph essays Grammar concepts will be covered each week Word of the week to increase vocabulary
Science ● ● ● Notes are to be taken Notes can be used on tests Test at end of each chapter STEAM activities most weeks State Testing in Science at the end of 5 th grade
Reading ● Novels will be read in homeroom class ● Wonders Text and weekly assessments ● Scholastic News to support current events and information texts
Social Studies ● Completed in homeroom class ● Reports related to social studies completed throughout the year ○ State report ○ President report ● Readings integrated with language arts
Attendance ● Being to school on time is very important. ● Tardy students not only miss out on academics but can also disrupt classmates when they enter the classroom. ● Coming to school daily and remaining for the full day allows students to gain the most academic achievement. ● When in-personschool returns, if your child is ill, please keep them at home.
Grading ● Student report cards will reflect the number grades 1 -5. Below is a chart breaking down the number and the percentage range connected with that number grade. *Please see parent handbook for additional information.
