Māori Health Focuses on making a difference for Māori health outcomes by providing culturally-competent health practice when working with Māori individuals, whānau, communities, organisations and populations. They learn how to work with Māori in a way that reflects Te Ao Māori and integrate their learning into health practice.
Pacific and Global Health Focuses on the effects of globalisation, economic pressures and changing societies on the health of Pacific peoples in New Zealand in neighbouring Pacific countries. Students learn how to effectively engage with Pacific people and their communities to develop and create positive solutions within the context of health care and provision at a population level. They learn about historical, social and cultural contexts to Pacific health, and strategies for understanding and addressing health inequities and key health issues. They explore the application of Pacific belief systems, values, principles and ethical approaches related to health.
Public Health focuses on preventing disease and injury, prolonging health and promoting the health of the populations through the organised efforts of society. It involves collective action across sectors and disciplines, with a focus on populations and communities. Students have the opportunity to explore and understand the depth of the social determinants of health (e. g. distribution of income, wealth, influence, systems and power), and public health responses to them.

This paper has really equipped me for my future career in terms of working with Pacific people and how to engage with them. Would consider this paper essential for anyone hoping to work as a health professional in NZ Cultural competence and compassion and care have been huge takeaways from this paper, and implementing them into practice will be one of the greatest tools. Broadened my horizons. I feel like a more effective New Zealander. The teaching styles and the professors that had a huge amount of passion that made me actually invested and feel the full weight of the importance of the material we learned. Also their respect for different backgrounds.
