Axilla (arm pit) • Between upper arm and thoracic wall • Boundaries: -Apex -Base -Anterior wall -Posterior wall -Medial wall -Lateral wall
Apex: (cervico-axial canal • Directed towards the root of the neck • Bondaries: Front: clavicle Behind: upper border of scapula Medially: outer margin of 1 st rib • Transmits axillary vessels and brachial plexus
Anterior wall: -pectoralis major -pectoralis minor -subclavius -clavipectoral fascia

Posterior wall: -subscapularis -teres major -latissmus dorsi
Posterior wall
Medial wall: -upper 3 or 4 intercostal spaces -upper part of serratus anterior -long thoracic nerve -intercosto brachial nerve pierces the medial wall

Lateral wall: -bicipital groove -coraco brachialis -biceps brachii
lateral wall
Base: -skin -superficial fascia -axillary fascia (deep fascia)
• Axillary folds: – Anterior axillary fold: • Pectoralis major – Posterior axillary fold: • Latissimus dorsi • Teres major
Contents: -axillary vessels- -cords and branches of brachial plexu -axillary lymph nodes -fat
Axillary artery: • Continuation of subcalvian artery • Extent: outer border of first rib to lower magin of teres major muscle, where it continues as a brachial artery • Divided into 3 parts by pectoralis minor • 1 st part: proximal to the muscle • 2 nd part: behind the muscle • 3 rd part: distal to the muscle
