The History Avila University Founded in the 1866 by Sisters of St. joseph In 1910, the school relocated to Main Street and in In 1916 became St. Teresa’s College, a two-year college for women. In 1921, the University of Missouri accredited St. Teresa College In 1930, the school became affiliated with St. Joseph Hospital’s School of Nursing, a professional emphasis that continues today at Avila. In 1940 the school became a four-year institution named College of St. Teresa.
History Continued. . In 1946, the school received accreditation from the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. 1963 modern era of Avila began. Construction started for a much larger new campus in South Kansas City. The new location created a new name Avila College. In 1965, Avila welcomed its first on-campus residents with the completion of Carondelet Hall. In 1969, when the university became fully coeducational. In 1974 Varsity athletics started and Mabee Fieldhouse, a modern indoor athletics center, opened in 1982 The university’s official nickname was changed to the Eagles in 1990.
Assistant Football Coach & Student Alumni In 2013, I attended Avila as a student and played college football. Voted a team Captain on Football team by peers and coaching staff. In 2015, I Graduated with Bachelors in Communication. 2015 – current, I work with the defensive backs on the football team gaining experience to hopefully become a head coach one day.
Environmental Scan: Purpose The purpose of Environmental scanning according to Gary Yukl (2013, p. 53) collecting information about relevant events and changes in the external environment, identifying threats and opportunities for the leaders group or organization, and identifying the best practices that can be imitated or adapted. The scanning may be carried out by using a leader’s network of contacts, by studying the decisions and actions of competitors and opponents.
My Environment Scan This environmental scan provides information on demographics, higher education, economic and state budget, research, economic development, and the related implications, and challenges for the Avila University.
Demographics Fall 2016 enrollment headcount consist of: 1, 288 Undergraduate 422 Graduate 1, 710 Total

Key Challenges: Continuing and improving admission to the University for minority, low income, and first generation students. Employing and maintaining high quality faculty and staff given increasing competition and approaching retirements Guaranteeing the maximum level of academic excellence outside of state and federal funding limitations Balancing interest in developing higher education’s public responsibility with appropriate privacy concerns within the University community (students, faculty, and staff).
