General Information • As a Biomedical Engineering student at IUL, I’m creating a medical machine specialized to patients who have chronic kidney failure. This dialysis machine replaces the function of a kidney. • When kidneys are damaged, they are no longer able to remove waste products and excess fluid from the bloodstream efficiently, for this, dialysis sessions are needed.
Why we thought about ACPD? 3 sessions per week (3 to 4 hours each session) → Time consuming operation
→ Lack of hospitals near the patient’s home
Methodology
We did a survey on 120 patients who make dialysis in hospitals in Lebanon, and got the following results: Patient's Gender [VAL UE] [VALU E] Males Females
Patient's Experience with Hemodialysis Great 1% 6% [VALUE] Acceptable 55% Bad Beautiful Great
Patient's experience with the hospital staff Very Good 3% 6% 28% [VALUE] Bad Normal Good Very Good
Hospital location 26% [VALUE] Near their homes Far away
Patients interest in the product [VALUE] 92% Interested Not interested
Marketing Plan • We are targeting patients who suffer from kidney failure, specially the ones who are in their early phases. • Our competitors are the companies who make kidney dialysis machines like Fresenius and Baxter. • Although these two companies are international, provide highquality products and services and have a huge experience in kidney dialysis treatment, they don’t sell full automated cycler for peritoneal dialyisis.
Project Financial Plan (over 5 years ) Net Present Value (NPV) calculation Internal Rate of Return
Recovery time of the amount invested
Profitability Index: • Profitability Index = (Net present value + invested amount) / invested amount = (19, 984. 33 + 150, 000) / 150, 000 = $1. 13 > 1 Thus, the project is profitable. • The company can expect to cash $ 0. 13 for every dollar invested.
