LATIN PRONUNCIATION VOWELS AND DIPHTHONGS • A vowel is short if it is printed normally: a, e, i, o, u, y • “A hen is often cooked. U!” • A vowel is long if it has a macron (a line) over it: ā, ē, ī, ō, ū, ȳ • “Father’s crepe machine holds two. U!” • Diphthongs are two vowels that combine into one sound (and a great thing to call each other on the playground): ae, au, ei, eu, oe, ui • “Aye, Brown, weigh eh-out oil wheels. ”
LATIN PRONUNCIATION CONSONANTS • If you see it, say it. (No Romans will be mad if you mess up. ) • • C=cat G=girl I at the beginning of a word and before a vowel=yes I between two vowels word centrally = diphthong + y S=sit V=wet Double consonants were double sounds (admittent = “admit tent”) Ch, Th, and Ph were all the Romanization of Greek letters, and represent the hard consonant followed by the letter “h. ” (blockhead, hothead, uphill)

We have been asked to keep a “Creek Week – Rush” feeling to our table. – Elizabeth is buying a board • 9/20 -23 is Homecoming week. 9/21 – pep rally and open mic night; 9/22 – field night; 9/23 Carnival. • Club pictures are 11/15.
