Audio Testing Content-Objective: Understand basic audio system performance testing specifications and what they mean. Language-Objective: Perform audio performance testing using Visual Analyzer.
Audio Terminology Total Harmonic Distortion (THD): Measurement of electronic signal quality. Indicating percentage of input signal distorted by the item. Lower the number the better it is. Sound Pressure Level (SPL): How loud the item is in decibels. (3 decibel increase equals double the volume). Wattage: How much electrical power the item consumes. .

Initial Set-up Procedure Power up Lab PC, and connect a 3. 5 mm stereo male to male adapter cable between the computers front microphone and headphone jacks

Start Visual Analyzer Program
Click “On” button to start
On right side click on “Input Gain” and verify Front Microphone is selected and not muted (bottom check mark)
On right side click on “Output Gain” and verify headphones are not muted (checked)
Place a check mark in “Wave Gen” in the Main tab on right side
Click “ON” in Wave Gen window and verify Signal display on Oscilloscope display behind Wave Gen window.
Disconnect 3. 5 mm cable from headphone computer front headphone jack and connect it to the MP 3 -audio being tested
On right side middle select “THD view” (red circle-checked), verify audio device is playing.
On left side middle record “THD” (yellow circle), verify audio device is playing.
On right side click on “capture spectrum” and analyze your audio devices spectrum performance (bad example below)
