Attention Getter Thesis Reason 1 Reason 2 Reason 3 Details to Prove Your Reasons Conclusion
Introduction (Paragraph 1) �Attention Getter �Make sure you grab the reader’s attention so that they will want to read on. �You may begin the essay by using a quotation, a question, a definition, or a bold statement about the topic.
Introduction (Paragraph 1) �After you have given several bridge sentences, conclude your introduction with a thesis statement which makes clear your opinion and what you will prove.
Example Thesis �“I believe that school uniforms are beneficial because (reason one), (reason two), and (reason three). ” �You will be supporting each one of your reasons included in thesis in a different body paragraph.
Body Paragraphs There at least three paragraphs in the body of the composition. �
First supporting paragraph �This paragraph will support the first reason for your opinion.
Topic Sentence �The topic sentence offers the first reason for your opinion. (Use a transitional word or phrase to begin your sentence. Words like: first, one point, initially)
�Add relevant details, examples and/or personal experience to support your reason as stated in the topic sentence.
Concluding Sentence �Write a concluding sentence to your paragraph. �The concluding sentence should be similar to the topic sentence.
Second and Third Supporting Paragraphs �Second and third supporting paragraphs will support the second reason and third reasons given in your thesis statement.
Second and Third Supporting Paragraphs • Follow the same format as above, except that your transitions might be words like: secondly, next, second, etc. Of course you will use different details, examples, proof.
Conclusion � This paragraph is the ending of your composition. There are various ways to write a closing. � You may want to summarize your argument and its main points. �
� You may want to give alternatives to your topic: example- instead of a uniform, schools can implement a strict dress code. � You may also want to echo the introduction. This paragraph is the last thing that I read before putting a grade on the essay. Make it good!
