Atomic Structure Proton – Positively charged particle in the nucleus of an atom. Neutron – Particle within the nucleus of an atom with a neutral charge. Electron – Negatively charged particle that orbits the nucleus of an atom.

Atomic Structure Protons (+) and Neutrons (n) make up the nucleus of an atom. Therefore the nucleus of an atom has a positive charge. The Atomic Number is the amount of protons in the nucleus.
