Geosphere n The geosphere is the solid Earth that includes continental and oceanic crust as well as the various layers of the Earth's interior.
Geosphere n The Earth's crust is divided into huge, thick plates that drift atop the soft mantle. The plates are made of rock and are from 80 to 400 miles thick. They move both horizontally and vertically. Over long periods of time, the plates also change in size as their margins are added to, crushed together, or pushed back into the Earth's mantle.
Atmosphere n Earth's atmosphere is a layer of gases surrounding the planet Earth and retained by the Earth's gravity. The atmosphere protects life on Earth by absorbing ultraviolet solar radiation and reducing temperature extremes between day and night.
Atmosphere n Earth's atmosphere contains roughly 78% nitrogen, 20. 95% oxygen, 0. 93% argon, 0. 038% carbon dioxide, trace amounts of other gases, and around 1% of water vapor.
Atmosphere n The Earth's atmosphere is about 300 miles thick, but most of the atmosphere (about 80%) is within 10 miles of the surface of the Earth. There is no exact place where the atmosphere ends; it just gets thinner and thinner, until it merges with outer space.
Hydrosphere Water affects everything that happens in life. In Latin, "hydro" means water. Therefore, anything that scientists describe, when it comes to water, is a part of the HYDROsphere. That water may be in the geosphere as groundwater or in the top layers of the atmosphere; all water is a part of the hydrosphere.
Hydrosphere n Water is the main cause of erosion of the earth’s surface. When water flows over land it breaks up rocks and soil.
Hydrosphere n The awesome depth of the Grand Canyon was cut by the erosive power of the Colorado River. Over long periods of geologic time, erosion by water can wear down mountain ranges.

n Geosphere, atmosphere, and hydrosphere have common components n Water moves through all of the earth’s systems. This is called the water cycle.
