Scheduling q Roman Pot Units o 4 Units to be procured • After sign off on pre-series o Procurement of motors, screws, rails and misc. • Started o Currently foreseen delivery: Spring-Summer 2007 • Installation in May 2007 seems difficult, not yet impossible – We would only install the mechanics with either pots or covers in the main vacuum chamber. No movements, all blocked in safe position. • Otherwise waiting for next shutdown (2007/08) q Pot o First prototype being prepared • Will be tested under vacuum • One or two will be used for the future test beam o Simulation of RF compatibility ongoing and tests to be done o Final production in sync with Roman Pot Units production • All material procured Joint LHC Machine-Experiments Workshop on Very Forward Detectors - 25 January 2007 Beniamino Di Girolamo - CERN PH
Scheduling q Cables in place, ancillary elements being procured o Patch panels being prepared o Movable vacuum equipment to be procured q Detector and electronics o Concepts proved to be suitable for our application • We are improving various details and we plan a testbeam in 2007 o Aiming for installation by shutdown 2008/09 Joint LHC Machine-Experiments Workshop on Very Forward Detectors - 25 January 2007 Beniamino Di Girolamo - CERN PH
Commissioning (shutdown 2008/09) q Commissioning during shutdown o Movements and controls o Access procedures o Safety procedures o Vacuum system o Interlocks o Simulation of normal and alarm conditions Joint LHC Machine-Experiments Workshop on Very Forward Detectors - 25 January 2007 Beniamino Di Girolamo - CERN PH
Operations (2009 run) q If luminosity would allow with nominal optics o In park position • Detector commissioning with halo particles • Background studies q With high optics o Approach to the beam o Detector commissioning (1 st time) o Test on overlap detectors o Normal running Joint LHC Machine-Experiments Workshop on Very Forward Detectors - 25 January 2007 Beniamino Di Girolamo - CERN PH
