Location � The Atlas Mountains is located along the Northwestern portion of Africa and runs through Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia. The Atlas Mountains separates the Northern coastline of Africa from the Sahara Desert.
Use and Trade � � The Atlas Mountains have played an important part in modern development even though it is hard to get to. The construction of reservoir dams has allowed water to irrigate the plains and generate the hydroelectricity energy. The Atlas Mountains are rich in minerals such as zinc, lead, copper, and silver. Among the most important mineral is phosphate.
Formation � � The Atlas Mountains were formed in three stages. The first stage of the Atlas Mountains formation consisted of collision between African and Eurasian tectonic plates. The collisions forced layers of limestone and sandstone up from the earth. In the second stage the earth’s crust expanded and many continental plates broke apart. During the last stage the plates collided again, but this time the plates slid over each other.
Habitable � � Some of the original inhabitants who fled from people wanting to take their land lives in the Atlas Mountains they have kept their own language, traditions, and beliefs. There are parts of the Atlas Mountains are over populated.
MATH � � � The Atlas Mountains can be divided into six regions The Middle Atlas, High Atlas, Anti Atlas, Tell Atlas, Saharan Atlas, and the Aures Mountains. The highest Atlas peak is 13, 665 feet (4, 165 meters). I want to walk up the Middle Atlas 180 miles in 6 days. Find the unit rate if I walked 180 miles in 6 days.
