Youth Leadership Development Programme • Annual all Ireland Rotary Competition • Club interviews October 2017 • Aimed at helping young people prepare for future careers • Emphasis is on the values of leadership, citizenship and personal growth. • Nomination Form - School Interview. • Winner of school interview goes forward to Club Interviews • Club Winner goes forward to Regional Finals. 3
Young Chef Competition • Rotary Young Chef in Athlone competition timeframes December 2017 – January 2018 – Local Schools. • The competition encourages young people to learn how to cook a healthy meal. • Develop food presentation skills • Consider food hygiene issues • Develop organisational and planning skills • Develop an ability to cope in a demanding situation • This competition is open to all students in full time education between ages 11 and 17 yrs 4
Young Writer • Written entries may be fiction, non-fiction, stories, or poems on theme this year “A Different Perspective. ” An A 4 of 500 words is a suggested suitable submission. • Competition timeframes commence February 2018 • Winning entries will be published in the Westmeath Independent and then a chance of District and National Finals • Winners are invited to Rotary Club of Athlone to read their entries. 5
Young Photographer • Entrants are required to produce a portfolio of three photographs based upon theme, “A Different Perspective. ” • Entrant must provide, in no more than 50 words, details of the inspiration for their photographs. • Competition will open locally in March 2018 • Winning entries will go forward to District level and if successful to National Level 6
Youth Exchange Programme An opportunity for young people to see the world, experience a different way of life and, make international friends. Short-Term Exchanges -For young people aged 15 -19. -Exchanges for 3 -4 weeks, first in Ireland then abroad during the summer. -School Reference required Camps & Tours -Organised by Rotary Clubs and last from 1 -4 weeks between June & August. -Focusses on an interest, hobby or skill. -For groups of 8 -20 with 1 or 2 from each country. 7
Youth Exchange details • Exchanges are available to a wide range of countries, Europe, USA and beyond. Camps & Tours are mostly in Europe. • Rotary ensures a safe environment for exchanges. • Families cost limited to round-trip travel, insurance and spending money. Room & board is provided by host families or Rotary families. • Timeline -Young people register interest October/November -Interviews conducted and application forms submitted before Christmas break. -Camps/Exchanges come online from January 2018 8
