Operational Implementation of CNS/ATM Datalink (FANS-1/A) is no more at Trial stage but Operational Need fully integrated Datalink with Radar and Flight Plan inputs Stand alone Datalink Gateways do not meet full CNS/ATM benefits AIDC/ CPDLC/ADS OLDI Radar/Flight Plan CPDLC/ADS RDP/FDP 7 Thomfans
Airsys ATM integrated CNS/ATM solution Use of Datalink not as a “nice-to-have gadget” but as an integrated tool to perform efficient Air Traffic Management ACARS ATN MMI AFTN, ICAO OLDI, AIDC MET FDP ADS/CPDLC Radar 1 Radar 2. . . What does integrated datalink mean? • ADS used as an inter-active surveillance tool : • Integration with FDP • Integration with RDP for transition between Radar & non-Radar environment • Use of next + N Waypoint information • CPDLC used as an Air/Ground communication device, but also as an integrated Air Traffic Management tool : • Integration with FDP to facilitate Flight Plan updates • CPDLC link management • Preparation of default values for the CPDLC messages • Automatic Message posting (e. g. AIDC/OLDI/SYSCO) : • For Coordination and Transfer of Control with Adjacent Centers 9 Thomfans
ADS integration with Radar • No separate dedicated display for ADS and Radar • all source of information (Radar, ADS, FP) available in a coherent display • unique track displayed per aircraft (display priority Radar/ADS/FP) • specific symbology to identify data source • For Periodic contracts • a specific offline adaptable contract is set to avoid frequent reporting during radar coupling. 10 Thomfans
ADS/FDP Integration for safety alerts (1/3) Route Adherence Monitoring - RAM Comparison of reported position with the FDP Flight Plan Route RAM corridor ATCC flight plan route Positions received in ADS reports RAM alert Aircraft trajectory RAM Periodic contract 11 Thomfans
ADS/FDP Integration for safety alerts (2/3) Cleared flight Level Adherence Monitoring - CLAM Comparison of current reported altitude with the CFL CLAM alert CLAM Periodic contract CFL Altitudes received in ADS reports CLAM altitude tolerance Aircraft altitude evolution 12 Thomfans
ADS/FDP Integration for safety alerts (3/3) Aircraft Route Conformance Warning (ARCW = FLIPCY) Monitors if the aircraft route follows the FDP Flight Plan Route ARCW corridor ATCC flight plan route Aircraft predicted route received in ADS report ARCW alert ARCW Periodic contract 13 Thomfans
CPDLC - FDP integration Re-Route Example Load cleared route into FMS New route to pilot based on new wind data Request clearance expressed in lat/longs by CPDLC WILCO Airline AOC New wind data Eurocat: • Visualise route proposed • Edit/revise • Conflict probe • Transmit clearance in lat/long 14 Eurocat : • FDP update • New route displayed on the MMI Thomfans

The ACARS network and FANS-1/A systems are expected (to continue) to provide dependable service for many years 2000 2010 2020 ACARS ATN systems will need to be implemented earlier for high density airspace Co-existence of the 2 networks For at least Oceanic / non-radar airspace 16 Thomfans

IDLS Features • IDLS supports ATC datalink services on top of the comm. protocols • IDLS implements the a/g comm. standards for your ATM platform • IDLS uses standard ground communication protocols • ASTERIX, ADEXP, TCP/IP, TP 4, UDP/IP, X. 25, ASN. 1, … • IDLS modular approach allows : • Customisation for any type of ATM platform (En-route ATC, Tower, AIS, …) and AOC platform, • Only those communication stacks required for the target operational environment need to be provided • IDLS can be integrated with any type of ATM and AOC platform 19 Thomfans
The data link server benefits • Operational Benefits : • Access to all kind of datalink equipped aircraft (FANS-1/A, ACARS 623, ATN, ADS-B, . . ) in the controlled airspace • IDLS is field proven for FANS and ATN interoperability • Respecting Airline and ATC investments in any air/ground communication technology • Technical Benefits : • IDLS allows ATN introduction in ACARS ATC centres with minor modifications • IDLS enables a clear system architecture, allowing growthpotential to your ATM/AOC system and any new ATM/AOC datalink services • IDLS dynamically selects the best air/ground communication link for each ATM/AOC service 20 Thomfans
Conclusions • Airsys ATM provides today integrated CNS/ATM solutions based on ACARS and ground ATC systems, helping to get maximum benefit of air/ground datalink. • Airsys ATM accommodates the transition from ACARS to ATN with … • The IDLS, being the ATC Centre air/ground communication interface: • supporting multiple air/ground communications • respecting so ATC and Airlines investments • enabling a clear and optimum ATC architecture • … all being available and demonstrated right now. . . 21 Thomfans
