What Is Asteroid Mining? • Asteroid mining is a method of obtaining resources from outer space. When mining in outer space the target would be a nearearth asteroid (N. E. A. ) • N. E. A. will be mined in the near future (2025 -2030) for a resource that is less abundant on earth.
How Valuable Is Asteroid Mining? • Asteroids are made of many different materials giving them the ability to contain many different resources valuable to man. • Asteroid mining is a way to collect resource that we have very few of on earth. As for example, there is an N. E. A. that contains about 90 000 tons of platinum in it which is more then we have ever found on earth and it is estimated to be worth $5 000 000, which could change some markets.
How Valuable Is Asteroid Mining? • When mining an N. E. A. some of then can contain water which is unbelievably useful because they can separate the molecules and use the hydrogen for rocket fuel and the oxygen for air to breath in. This will drastically lower the cost that it takes to make a mission to farm asteroids. This will also allow the shuttle to use asteroids as gas stations.
• They have many different methods on how it will work but the ideal method to mine asteroid is to tow(using a gravity tractor) it to the moon and have astronauts inspect it there, then with further development, they will be able to effectively mine an asteroid. How To Mine An Asteroid
What Did I Learn? • While working on the Astrowonder assignment, I learned many different things about space and our solar system when I was reaching my topic. I learn to work well even if I don’t have much time to work. I also learn about how asteroids have so many different resources that are extremely valuable to mankind. Another thing that I learn is that a single space rock (asteroid) is worth up to 5 000 000 dollars, which is crazy.
