What the job is. ■ The ALM is the Location managers primary assistant. They are responsible for the Location managers secondary tasks which include Location scouting, Smaller scale crew organization and Leading secondary sets. ■ Works closely with the unit manager and location manager. ■ Scouts out locations. ■ Distributes daily call sheets with directions to a location. ■ Presents additional locations to the Director and Production Designer.
Job Requirements. ■ Be a confident and experienced driver. ■ Be computer literate. ■ Good communication skills. ■ Be tactful and resourceful. ■ Accurate sense of direction ■ Be able to troubleshoot. ■ Excellent organizational skills. ■ Good knowledge of any health and safety laws or procedures that would be relevant to the job role. ■ Best training is acquired on the job due to the work being extremely practical so no formal qualifications are needed. ■ Be adaptable to weather. ■ Be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Working patterns. ■ An ALM’s working hours will mainly revolve around the Location Manager’s and will most likely work on pre-production and production to scout locations to film and send out call sheets to all cast and crew members on set. ■ Part time work I rare because both the LM and ALM need to be constantly available. ■ Work very long hours during filming. ■ Typically the first and last people on a shoot. ■ Freelance workers and paid on a contract basis.
