ASL Glossing Conventions � An ASL Gloss is a way to write what we see on the hands � ASL is not a written language- this is only written to study ASL � A dash “-” connects two English words that create only one sign eg. NOT-YET � � _ _ NEG READY ME Each sign is written in all capital letters The line above the signs indicates non-manual signals (face, etc. ) ______ __Y/N UNDERSTAND
Question Formation in ASL � Yes/No questions (questions that can be answered with a yes or a no) � Eyebrows up (raised the entire sentence) � Slightly higher at the very end
