Climate • The weather in Asia depends on where you are, because it is so big! • There are deserts, jungles, plains, and many different kinds of land.

History • Many great civilizations grew out of Asia, in countries like Japan, China, Thailand, India, and Iraq.

China • China has the biggest population in the world with about 1. 3 billion people. • China’s capital city is Beijing. • China has many world wonders including the Wall of China and the Terra Cotta warriors. • Mandarin Chinese is the language.

• Chinese civilization is one of the oldest. It goes back over 6, 000 years. • Emperors ruled China for 2, 000 years (unified). • In 1949 a new government was started, and the country’s name changed to “The People’s Republic of China”.

Russia • • • It is the largest country in the world. It’s population is about 143 million. It’s capital city is Moscow. The country covers 11 time zones. The official language is Russian.

Japan • Japan is made up of over 3, 000 islands. • Tokyo is the capital city and the biggest city in the world (by population). • Japan has about 130 million people. • They speak Japanese, although there is no official language.

• The only Atom bombs dropped in history were on the Japanese cities of Nagasaki and Hiroshima during World War II. • The characters in Japan’s name mean “sun origin country”, this is why Japan is called the land of the rising sun.
