Role of the ASHRAE Technical Activities Committee (TAC) • TAC (the Technical Activities Committee): – coordinates HVAC&R technical activities, including membership, development and oversight of technical committees, task groups, technical resource groups, and multidisciplinary task groups – members include the Section Heads – TAC reports to the Technology Council.

What is an ASHRAE Technical Committee (TC)? • Group of volunteers who provide the Society with expertise in a specific field or subject. • TCs start as a Task Group (TG) when a new technical area develops that is relevant to the Society. . • TCs are by far the most numerous of the various technical groups within ASHRAE; more than 90 • Typically meet 2 x/year at Winter and Summer Conferences • Voting member terms are typically four years – But you can serve as a non-voting member as long as you want • TC/TG members do not have to be ASHRAE members – Exception: chair, vice-chair, secretary

How to get involved in TCs, TGs, TRGs, and MTGs • Cruise the ASHRAE home page and see what the TCs are doing – Click on “Standards, Research & Technology” menu; then click on “Technical Committees” or go to www. ashrae. org/TCs – Links to all TCs, etc. ; many have their own homepages – Can apply for provisional corresponding membership (CM) directly with ASHRAE; Go to www. ashrae. org/TCs and click on “Join a TC” – E-mail the secretary or chair about your interest • For TC 1. 1 chair e-mail is tc 0101@ashrae. net ; secretary e-mail is tc 0101 SEC@ashrae. net • TCs, TGs, etc. typically meet at the Winter and Annual meetings – But many opportunities for remote participation as CM or informally • Look over the list of TCs, TGs, & TRGs to see which are most relevant to your interests and expertise
