ASB Informational Session 2019 -2020 SCHOOL YEAR
ASB stands for Associated Student Body and it represents the interests and goals of the entire PVIS Student Body. What is ASB? Students in ASB plan, organize, and participate in such activities as formal and informal dances, Spirit Weeks, grade-level competitions, community awareness projects, cultural events, and Staff Recognition throughout the year
ASB Officer Requirements Attendance at ASB meetings from 7: 30 AM – 8: 10 AM, every other Wednesday Must be involved in another organization on campus (Leadership, WEB, Friendship club, NJHS, etc) Attendance at bimonthly Principal’s Advisory Committee meetings during 3 rd period Have at least 1 teacher endorse you candidacy
ASB Offices 2019 -2020 SCHOOL YEAR
ASB President (8 th Grade Only) The president shall preside at all meetings and in every way endeavor to promote the best interests of the Council and school. The president, with the advice of the ASB adviser and the principal. • Is a representative of the school to the faculty, staff and parents. • Run all ASB meetings • Oversees any activity sponsored by the ASB. • Is responsible for other cabinet members and their actions.
ASB Vice President (7 th or 8 th Grade) The duties of the vice-president are the same as those of the president, to be assumed in the absence of the president. • Takes on any project, which the president is unable to work on. • Takes on the office, which is not filled or cannot be done by that officer. • In charge of ASB Website – updating with important information for students and upcoming events
ASB Secretary (7 th or 8 th Grade) The secretary shall attend and record the minutes of the Council and all Cabinet meetings. The minutes shall be at all times open to the students of PVIS and to any interested persons. • Take minutes at all meetings. • Binder must have all information pertaining to the ASB – agendas, minutes, budget reports • Keep minutes up to date on ASB website • Takes attendance and minutes at Homeroom Representative meetings
ASB Treasurer (7 th or 8 th Grade) The Treasurer handles ASB funds and money • Verify all incoming and outgoing student monies • Provides information for pre-approval of funds spent on ASB clubs • Sign all requisitions once they have been approved by the cabinet
Spirit Chair (All Grades) The Spirit Chair handles all class competitions and spirit days - Lead spirit days and weeks - Coordinate monthly “Fri. YAY” celebrations - Update spirit day and class competition point totals for homerooms and grade levels - Facilitate school pep rallies
Service Chairs (2) The Service Chairs spearhead all logistics for service opportunities within the school, they also do the daily announcements for the school - Coordinate and deliver the daily announcements - Work with NJHS and ASB to coordinate fundraisers and drives for outside organizations - Keep track of homeroom classroom participation in fundraisers and drives

Campaigning! Starts 9/5 after application approval YOU MAY: YOU MAY NOT: • Make colorful posters • Get help from friends to put them up around school (once they are approved) • Put them in teacher classrooms with teacher permission • Be creative! • Bribe people to vote for you • Cover lockers to put up your signs • Put up posters that have not been approved • Be inappropriate
Campaign Speeches To be given at an all-school assembly on the 10 th YOU MAY: YOU MAY NOT: • Speak for up to a minute • Make inappropriate jokes • Outline your platform and why you're running • Yell, scream, chant, or do anything disruptive within your speech • Talk about your goals for the school • Make changes to your speech once it's been approved • Practice with your friends or a teacher • Copy a speech from someone else
Election • Will be done through an Office form • When submitting your application, please email me a headshot to be used for the ballot Power. Point teachers show in class • You will find out results on September 11 th This is a good headshot This. . . not so much
Important Dates Applications Due: September 4 th at 7 PM ONLINE (link on ASB page) Start Campaigning: September 5 th (POSTERS MUST BE APPROVED BY MS. SCHOFIELD) Practice Campaign Speech: September 9 th @ Lunch/During 5 th period All School Assembly/Elections: September 10 th First ASB Meeting: September 18 th
Tips to make this successful! - Ask your teachers to endorse you TODAY so you can get going - Submit your application ASAP so I can aprove you - Get comfortable with you PVPUSD email address because we'll be using it - Start writing your speech now - Get those posters into me ASAP for campaigning
What happens if I don't win? 1. It sucks. I've been there. I'm sorry. 2. You can still be involved on campus! Join us in the mornings for leadership, work with another club, it'll be ok!
