DG TREN message • EC remains committed to ASAS • Position ASAS into SESAME Master plan. • Need to show benefit to achieve implementation – area for focus?
Key issues (1) • ASAS is not stand alone - an integrated part of the ATM system • The RFG process feeding into RTCA/EUROCAE and then into ICAO is happening • Work from NUP & other programmes needs to be updated to reflect RFG outputs • Validation: an integrated ATM element. • SESAME should take into account RFG outputs.
Key issues (2) • An ADS-B-OUT rich environment therefore: - NRA in Scandinavia, Ireland, Spain-Canaries and Mediterranean region should be operational as soon as possible. - ADS-B-IN in Pacific, in Atlantic - TMA • Cost benefit studies should be used to drive common equipage • Working towards implementation decision making
Key issues (3) • Coherence needs to be achieved between the Airbus/Boeing common view & road map, and current ASAS work • ATSAW: Situation Awareness is not an end in itself, the information must be directed at specific tasks • Keep it simple AND make it work for the human operators • Packages 2 & 3 coordinated research programme now!!
