Writer’s block is what you get if you’re too full of yourself and trying to be García Márquez. You sit and stare at the wall and nothing happens for you. It ’s like imagining you’re a tree and trying to sprout leaves. Once you come to your senses and accept who you are, then there’s no problem. I’m not García Márquez. I’m a latemiddle-aged midlist fair-to-middling writer with a comfortable midriff, and it gives me quite a bit of pleasure. --Garrison Keillor © 2013 Artist, INC

Larry thomas 62 words At first glance my work might appear abstract, but closer inspection reveals a multitude of realistic, semi-realistic, and other abstract images camouflaging subsequent layers of realistic, semirealistic, and other abstract images or figures. Combining the traditional medium of paint with the contemporary medium of digitally generated images, I explore the concepts of lies and deception, invisibility and camouflage, both visually and B 17 metaphorically. © 2013 Artist, INC

Chris dahlquist 109 words I approach 21 st century photography with the sensibility and aesthetic of a 19 th century photographer. By employing the best characteristics of both eras, I create anachronistic images of “in-between” spaces. Just as the earliest photographers, the practitioners of daguerreotype and tintype, I treat metal plates by hand, preparing each to receive its own unique photograph. I capitalize on the smooth surface of steel, a finely textured under painting, and the translucent qualities of digital pigments to create each luminous piece. My images are metaphors for the “inbetween” places in our lives. The ones where we must be mindful to appreciate the subtle beauty and richness that quietly B 18 reside there. © 2013 Artist, INC
