Art and Photography Transition Project These are strange times for us all but particularly students who have not had chance to complete courses and finish what they set out to achieve. We have set a small project for you to complete over the summer so that you are keeping in touch with your creativity.
task 1 - photography Andrew Curtis The theme of the photography project is ‘Sanctuary’. Think about what this means to you at this time. Do the following to give you some ideas- Look up the word in thesaurus or dictionary - Ask your family what this means to them - Write down some thoughts and ideas - Think about how these can be translated into a photograph. - Look at the following websites to give you some ideas https: //www. canva. com/learn/10 -inspiring-project-365 -ideas-takephoto-day-keep-creative-block-away/ http: //100 photos. time. com/ David Ryle
A ’good’ photograph includes some of the following elements – Compelling Composition/layout. Think about the viewpoint and the way the shapes within the image interact with each other. – Display Of Emotion. Some photographs affect the way we feel and this can be very powerful – Simple Storytelling. Some photographs tell a story or parts of a story like this one by Cindy Sherman
– Unique Moments. If you have your camera or phone on you all the time it is possible to capture something very special – Unique Lighting and Colour. Think about the lighting and where the source of light is as this can affect the mood of the image
task 2 -evaluation Select 6 photographs and put the photographs together to see them as a whole series. Think about how they reflect your idea of ‘Sanctuary’. This can be done by printing them out, putting the images together digitally whichever you can do practically or that you choose to do. Bill Armstrong Sally Mann
Evaluate the photographs you have taken and write about them using these prompts: Is there an underlying theme that shows through? § Expand on this. Explain your ideas about Sanctuary and how these photographs reflect it. How do they reflect how you feel during this time? § Is there something about the light and shade, the viewpoint or the objects that are reflective of your mood or the situation you are in? How could you develop these photographs further? § Could some be enhanced with more colour or by using monotone? § Look at this link and see how you might experiment with these images and describe the changes you have made and how they might enrich the image. Matthew Brandt uses water to affect the image. https: //www. studentartguide. com/articles/creativephotography-ideas
task 3 - research § art 2 day is a great resource to find some contemporary photographers that may link with your own practice. You can subscribe for a donation but you can access the areas you need without that. § On the following slides there are some suggested photographers that would be good to find out about and whose work may link to your own and enable you to reflect on your thoughts and ideas. Adam Krawsky
John A Chakeres Francoise Delfosse

task 4 – drawing or painting Drawing is used by artists, designers, mathematicians, geologists and many more as a way for explaining, understanding, recording, discovering.
