WH AT I S R O T C ? Army Reserve Officer Training Corps is a leadership and training program. It focuses on problem solving, planning, and professional ethics. Over 70% of all Army Officers commission through ROTC. Freshmen and sophomores take Basic Course classes and Basic Camp or Basic Training. Advanced Course Cadets are juniors, seniors or graduate students pursuing a commission. They are paid to attend Advanced Camp the summer after their junior year. R OT C MY T H S 1. You are joining the Army by joining Army ROTC 1. Our Cadets don’t join the Army until they decide to contract 2. I’m committing the next 8 years if I accept an ROTC scholarship 2. Four year scholarship winners can void their contract prior to the start of their second year 3. You have to go to Basic Training 3. Cadets can earn Basic Course credit by completing freshman and sophomore ROTC courses, attending Leader’s Training Course, or Basic Training 4. You have to be in great shape to join ROTC 5. ROTC takes up too much time 6. ROTC will lower my grades 4. Our Physical Training Program is led by our Cadets and designed for all abilities 5. ROTC requires freshmen to take a 1 hour class—contracted Cadets take a 2 hour lab, and 1 hour of Physical Training on MWF 6. We teach professional development, including time management and study skills, and peer-to-peer mentoring 7. I’ll get pulled out of school and 7.
