‘Monthly club for local young people developed in partnership with the Middle Wallop AAC

‘Monthly club for local young people developed in partnership with the Middle Wallop AAC base Army Welfare Service youth group using the museum’s stories and collections as a catalyst for creative, hands on out of school activities reaching a new audience of young people’ § Partnership working with the AWS based at Middle Wallop for young people § Monthly sessions held at the museum § Sessions based on different themes (WW 1 / WW 2 / VE Day 75 / STEM) § working with an already established group § Group took part in takeover day / consulted on activities in museum § Wider partnership working with other AWS officers and existing groups at Worthy Down and Thorney Island - create work for Café Spotlight displays

HLF Target: ‘ 20 sessions x 25 young people = 500 participations’ § 7 sessions with 15 -25 young people regularly attending. § 175 young people already participated § Sessions started in September 2019 due to museum reopening. § sessions for the remainder of project planned, devised and developed § Using museum collections, stories and artefacts for sparking imagination and curiosity

‘Changing themed displays of museum collections and community content in the museum café created by collaborations between museum staff, volunteers, school and community groups’ § Displays created and curated by community groups from across Hampshire and Wiltshire (interpreting the museum collections and stories in unusual and quirky ways) § Some groups generating their own displays – Art Talk and Young Eagles § Rotation of different themes over next two years: Army Food , D-Day Ruperts, Poppies, Taking Flight, Squadron Flags: signs and Symbols, Kit Bags, Brilliant Balloons etc § Interest in taking part in these from groups has snowballed so much that these displays are now supplemented and enhanced with installations within the actual museum itself. § Free entry was offered to participants involved in poppy project. § Displays have prompted groups to visit who haven’t visited before

‘An inspiring, portable, interactive Pop up Museum exhibit’ 9 largescale events x 250 people = 2, 250 participations 15 small scale events x 40 people = 600 participations Total participations 2, 850 § Presence at large scale events across Hampshire and Wiltshire with pop up museum activities for wide range of audiences (wider and reinvigorated awareness of museum) § Target number: 24 per year § Actual number: 30 per year

Were you a solider? Did you serve? Were you a pilot? Never heard of the museum! never associate army with flying § Donations of objects to the museum § Enquiries about volunteering / sleepovers for uniformed groups § Person to associate the museum with – Dan the Army Flying Man!

HLF target: ‘ 4 events a year x 3 years x 25 people = 300 participations Outcomes: from start of project to March 2020 § 200 outreach sessions held (start of project to now) § 7000 participations § Now building up relationships with many groups across Hampshire and Wiltshire § Reputation and awareness of the museum, its stories and collections ‘Seasonal programme of on and offsite expert led practical talks, demonstrations and workshop sessions which involve museum staff, AAC personnel, HAF engineers and STEM Ambassadors in sharing their particular expertise and perspectives with an adult audience in an engaging way that strongly links to the museum’s collections and displays’
