Lesson 1 Module 1 Developing the knowledge, attitudes and skills that young people need to effectively ask for help. Aim: Pupils should develop the knowledge, attitudes and skills to identify and talk about abusive behaviour. Lesson 2 Aim: Pupils should develop good strategies to ask for help in order to resist controlling or abusive behaviour. Lesson 3 Aim: Pupils should practice and share good strategies in asking for help in order to resist controlling or abusive behaviour. Lesson 4 Aim: To “ Prepare young people for adult life by helping them to develop knowledge of how to access further advice and support. ”. This is a requirement identified by OFSTED in their 2013 report.

Module 1 - Lesson 1 Scene 1 – You can’t wear that Scene 2 – Text control Objectives: Develop knowledge about different forms of abuse. Identify appropriate words to describe positive responses to controlling behaviour. Discuss the behaviour of the characters in the films using the appropriate language to describe positive responses to unwanted or controlling behaviour. Discuss the importance of asking for help and the difference that help makes to the characters in the films, especially Olivia and Danielle. _____________________________ _ Materials and Method: Starter Activity – Discussion on dating violence. Objectives: Discuss the difference between Olivia, who is supported by her friends, and Danielle, who has to respond alone. How does this impact on their ability to ask for help? Pupils should identify a support network for Danielle / themselves in the place of Danielle. Create storyboards to describe positive strategies that Danielle might use to get help, so that she doesn’t have to respond alone. _____________________________ _ Materials and Method Starter Activity: Large group discussion comparing Danielle and Olivia. Objectives: Identify people and resources that might help pupils to respond to controlling behaviour. Use the internet to research organisations that might provide help and support.
