What is a thesis statement? A thesis statement is a strong statement that you can prove with evidence. It is not a simple statement of fact. Your thesis statement will be the main idea of your entire project. A thesis statement should be the product of your own critical thinking after you have done some research.

“The Lady or the Tiger” Essay Prompt: Based on evidence from the story to back up your position, write an essay in which you argue whether the lady or the tiger came out of the door when the young man opened it. You must use at least one direct quote from the story in each body paragraph to support your opinion. Refer back to the text of the story for supporting quotes. You are trying to persuade your reader of what the princess would do, not what you would do. Do not use “I” or bring yourself into this essay; stick to the princess’ point of view in this decision.
