Goal of ubiquitous wireless inside and outside. Preparing the network for Vo. IP 14 building are being refreshed in Phase 2 We have completed about 10% of the buildings in this phase. OSP Modernization – Phase 2 § § Second phase in a five year project to replace the current campus outside cable plant. The current copper plant is failing. – Fire Alarm, Security, Utility services, Communications services are all starting to fail. § The current fiber plant is at capacity. – There are buildings that have no available fiber and require more. – Old mechanical splices are challenging to work with. § § § Much of the cable plant is direct buried with no conduit system. A new conduit system with extra capacity is being installed Most of the new cabling will be fiber, but very limited amounts of copper will be installed as needed. Phase 2 includes new cabling to 28 buildings. Expecting to award the bid by the end of Jan. 2013. Expected completion is the end of August 2013.
