Arctic Regional Hydrographic Commission (ARHC) Meetings • The 5 th ARHC met in Saint Petersburg, Russian Federation, 28 -30 October 2015. • An intersessional Teleconference (phone) call was held on 13 April 2016. The main agenda items were a) the logistics and preparations for ARHC 6; and, b) the ARHC rules for selection to the IHO Council. • An extraordinary ARHC meeting was held in conjunction with IRCC 8 on May 28 th and one will be held on May 31 st, 2016. • The 6 th ARHC meeting is scheduled to take place in conjunction with the Ocean Innovation Conference 4 -5 October 2016 in Iqaluit, Nunavut, Canada. The theme of Ocean Innovation 2016 is, “Adapting to a Changing Circumpolar North: Traditional and New Oceans Technologies”. Presentation to PAME II 2014 2

Arctic Regional Hydrographic Commission (ARHC) Activities • At ARHC-5, Member States accepted a proposal to further develop and implement an IHO-hosted portal for all the Arctic Voyage Planning Guides (AVPGs) of the ARHC. • Efforts to address Electronic Navigation Charts (ENCs) overlaps (and prevent new overlaps) are ongoing. • A project team to explore development and design options for pursuing an Arctic - Marine Spatial Data Infrastructure (A-MSDI) is being led by US. The analysis and options will be presented at the ARHC-6 meeting. Synergies between this effort and the needs and interests of the Arctic Council, its working groups, and other initiatives in the Arctic are being explored. Presentation to PAME II 2014 3

Arctic Regional Hydrographic Commission (ARHC) Main Items Under Consideration • Continuing to raise awareness of the importance of hydrography and charting in the Arctic by engaging and collaborating with other stakeholders in the region. • • Targeted Controlled Crowd Sourcing Remote Sensing (Satellite-Derived) Bathymetry Arctic Marine Spatial Data Infrastructure (A-MSDI) Conference on the Global Leadership in the Arctic: Cooperation, Innovation, Engagement and Resilience (GLACIER) • Implementing the Arctic Voyage Planning Guides (AVPG) Portal. • Maintaining the information in the AVPGs. • Development of the A-MSDI. Arctic Regional Hydrographic Commission (ARHC) Main Items Under Consideration (continued) • Collecting more data from MSs to enhance the Hydrographic risk assessment tool developed by the Operational & Technical Working Group (OTWG). • Council representation process. • Support to other relevant organizations addressing Arctic navigation and related issues, such as the: • Arctic Council’s working group on the Protection of the Arctic Marine Environment (PAME) • Emergency Prevention Preparedness and Response Working Group (EPPRWG). • Artic Spatial Data Infrastructure (Arctic SDI) Presentation to PAME II 2014 5
